Who Is Jesus?

It is the most important question in life: Who is Jesus?

It is more important than questions about politics or economics.  It is more important than which denomination a church belongs to, or what style of music a church plays for worship.  There are lots of complicated spiritual questions over which people often argue.  But the question above all questions is,  “Who is Jesus?”

There is a more theologically precise expression of our beliefs about Jesus provided under the “Who we Are/Beliefs” tab, but here’s the answer in everyday language:

  • Jesus is God and has existed forever.
  • The ancient prophets predicted Him, and one of the ways we know He is the real deal is that He fulfilled those prophecies with such precision that the odds against one man doing so are virtually zero. But He did it.
  • He revealed to us what God is like, lived a perfect life, and taught us eternal truth.
  • Then He died for our sins on the cross.  He volunteered to be considered as sinful as we are so those who belong to Him could be considered as righteous as He is.  He suffered all the Hell we deserved so we could enjoy the Heaven He prepared for us.
  • Three days later, He proved all His claims by rising bodily from the grave.  Later, He ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father.
  • Now He continues to love us, talk to God the Father for us, and enjoy His relationship with us as our King and our Friend.

Do you know Him?

You can begin a relationship with Him by giving your life to Him and asking Him to become your Savior and Lord.  Such a prayer might sound like this:

Lord Jesus,

I believe you are who You say You are.  I believe you love me and that you died as the payment for my sin.  I choose to hate my sin and love You.  Please forgive me for my sin, and take full control of my life.  Starting right now, I will live in obedience to You.

In your name I pray, Amen.
